Recovery at Home

The day after you go home from surgery, a TVEC nurse will call to check your progress. If you have any questions regarding your surgery, you should contact your doctor without delay.

Pain Management
It is normal to have some pain and discomfort after your surgery, due to swelling and movement of tissue during the surgery. Pain and discomfort will decrease during the healing process. Your doctor may prescribe pain medication to be taken at home or advise you about taking appropriate over-the-counter medications, such as Tylenol.

General recovery reminders:

  • Limit your activity for 24 hours.

  • Do not drive until advised to do so by your doctor.

  • You may experience some pain (i.e. soreness, itching, or scratching sensation in the eye or headache)

  • Medication given during surgery may temporarily affect your memory or judgment for 24 hours following surgery.

  • Leave eye patched until your doctor says to remove it.

  • Use eye drops as directed by your doctor or nurse

  • A follow-up visit may be scheduled for the next day after surgery.
